Interview with Elisabeth Malini

Elisabeth Malini1She recently won the Best Female Singer in the Olikkeetru Awards in Paris, France. The French-born Tamil Canadian artist has been enthralling her audience with her refreshing vocals and strong sense of rhythm.

Elisabeth Malini is more than her music as she completed her Bharathanatyam Arangetram in 2001 under Guru Ananthy Sridas Sasitharan. The melodious singer is also currently pursuing a double degree in Vocal, Dance & minor in Mrithangam at Anaamallai University (Toronto, Ontario).

The Canadian Tamil singer started her musical journey in the early nineties when she began performing with the Super Leads from 1993 to 1996. In the following year in 1997, she continued her musical journey with Mega Tuners up until now, a whooping 17 years.

She released her music album Nizhalgal in 2006 and also participated in the Super Singer 3 as one of the international contestants from Canada.

We had to interview this experience and versatile singer! Therefore, without further ado introducing to all of you – Elisabeth Malini!

When did you first start singing?

I started singing at the age of 7!

Who are your musical inspirations?

SwarnalathaMy musical inspirations are Swarnalatha and all sorts of singers and musicians.

You were one of the contestants in Vijay TV’s Airtel Super Singer 3, tell us your experience.

Elisabeth Malini2It was an amazing experience on Vijay TV and I have learnt so much, especially in vocal through Ananth Vaithyanath.

You recently won the Best Singer award in Olikkeetru Awards in Paris, did you expect winning?

I was very honoured in accepting the Olikkeetru award and never really expected this!

If given a choice, where would you most like to perform?

I would love to perform in France, where I was born! And in Europe, which is one of my dreams!

If you weren’t singing, what would you be doing?

I would be a Bharatha natyam dancer!

If you could dabble in another genre of music, what would it be?

I would dabble in Ghazal, western and blues.

What genre of music that you can’t stand listening?

I can’t stand listening to country music as it’s not my favourite.  

Do you play any instruments?

What is currently on your playlist?

The current songs on my playlist are Saatai Nedunchalai and Pongadi Ningalum Ungada Kaathalum

What are you working on at the moment?

Elisabeth Malini3I am currently working on an album and also playback singing.
